Udupi, January 10, 2026: Former BJP state president and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Friday alleged that Karnataka has turned into a “goonda state” under the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, citing the recent incident in Hubballi in which a woman was allegedly stripped.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP office in Udupi, Kateel said that ever since the present government came to power, incidents such as pro-Pakistan slogans being raised, the Pakistani flag being displayed during victory celebrations, and the killing of a muni in Belagavi had occurred. Acts of assault and hooliganism have become a daily affair, he alleged, adding that the state has therefore become a “goonda state”.
He further claimed that incidents of rape were on the rise across the state. Congress MLAs, he said, had allegedly assaulted BJP legislators during KDP meetings, firing incidents had taken place in Ballari, and even associates of ruling party legislators had killed their own party workers. “All this reflects the mindset of the Congress government,” he alleged, adding that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers were justifying such acts.
Kateel said the Congress had failed to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of Ram Rajya, and instead Karnataka was witnessing a “Ravana Rajya”. He alleged that the state was turning into “Lankapura”, and made a controversial remark comparing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Ravana, saying both were intelligent and highly knowledgeable, and sarcastically questioned whether the Chief Minister’s name was being changed.
Earlier, addressing a press conference, Kateel defended the Centre’s Viksit Bharat Employment Guarantee and Livelihood Mission (VB-G Ram G) scheme and alleged that the Congress was indulging in misinformation and propaganda against the scheme.
