Mangaluru: Man duped of Rs 3 lakh in fake credit card upgrade scam

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jun 20, 2026: A 45-year-old Mumbai resident was allegedly duped of over Rs 3 lakh by cyber fraudsters who posed as representatives of a private bank and offered a credit card upgrade.

According to the complaint, the victim had arrived at his mother’s residence in Karnire on June 17. While at home, he received a phone call from a person claiming to be a bank representative, who offered him a lifetime upgrade of his credit card.

Scam

Believing the offer to be genuine, the complainant agreed to proceed. The caller then sent a link via WhatsApp and instructed him to complete the upgrade process. After clicking the link, the victim was directed to a website where he entered his credit card details and a One-Time Password (OTP).

Soon after, multiple unauthorised transactions were carried out using his credit card, resulting in a loss of Rs 3,05,165.

The complainant alleged that unknown persons fraudulently obtained his card details under the guise of upgrading his credit card and cheated him. A case has been registered at Mulki Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
