Cattle theft sparks protest in Suratkal

Mangalore, Sep 23, 2013 :  The theft of a cow from the cattle shed of one Vasanthi Giriyappa of Idya near Suratkal,  sparked a protest in Suratkal on September 22, Sunday when residents of Idya gheraoed the Suratkal police station condemning the police inaction in putting a check to the rising cases of cattle thefts.

It is learnt, the cattle from the house of Vasanthi was stolen on September 21, Saturday night at around 3  am. The police were informed as soon as the theft came to light at 4 am.

 The protestors alleged that  the police had failed to protect the cattle by arresting the cattle thieves despite a spurt in cattle theft cases.

Satyajit Suratkal, leader of a Hindu  organization, said even in case the public helped in trapping the cattle  thieves,  they are booked for no reason.

Corporator Ashok Shetty and others were part of the protest.
