Mangaluru, Feb. 8, 2026: Panic prevailed for a brief period near the KSRTC bus stand at Bejai on Sunday after a moving car suddenly caught fire near the main entrance of the busy bus terminal.
The driver noticed smoke billowing from the engine compartment while passing the bus stand and immediately stopped the vehicle before jumping out. Within minutes, the front portion of the car was engulfed in flames, sending thick smoke into the area.

The incident triggered anxiety among hundreds of passengers and commuters present at the bus stand. Local shopkeepers and auto-rickshaw drivers attempted to control the fire using water and handheld fire extinguishers, but the flames intensified rapidly.
Fire personnel from the Kadri fire station rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. Though the car was extensively damaged, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Vehicular movement on Bejai Road was disrupted for some time as crowds gathered at the spot. Traffic police later cleared the congestion and restored smooth movement of buses and other vehicles.
A technical snag or a short circuit in the engine is suspected to have caused the fire. A case has been registered at the jurisdictional police station.
