Mangalore, Oct 1, 2012 : CM Jagadish Shettar has urged union ministers from Karnataka to bring the attention of the PM to the plight of the state.
Interacting with reporters at Mangalore Airport, the CM said that S. M. Krishna, M. Veerappa Moily, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, and K. H. Muniyappa must speak to the PM about the plight of people in drought-hit regions of the state.
Rubbishing the opposition’s allegations, he said that the state government has fought the case effectively and has clearly mentioned the various problems that release of water can create. Stating that the government has no other option, but to release water to TN, following the Supreme Court’s order, the CM said that the state government has appealed to the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), headed by PM Manmohan Singh, to stay the order to release 9000 cusecs of water to TN every day.
He also said that the state government has written a letter to PM Manmohan Singh about the Cauvery issue, but has not yet received a response. He said that the state had requested the PM to appoint an expert team to evaluate the situation at the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) meet held on September 19.
Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, MLAs Lalaji Mendon and Krishna J.Palemar, DK ZP President Shailaja Bhat, and DK BJP President Padmanabha Kottari were also present.
