The plant was proposed because of the shortage of fish processing plants in the state. When completed, this plant will held the transport of fish for export from Mangalore to Kerala.

The proposed plant is expected to have features such as a frozen storage unit of 500-ton capacity, a flake ice plant of 10-ton capacity, a trolley freezer with a capacity of freezing 10 tons of fish per day, a plate freezer with a 6-ton capacity, and a chilled room with a 10-ton capacity. Besides, the plant is to have other features such as a water purification unit, an effluent treatment plant, a quality control lab to ascertain that it meets standard of export, and many others. A wide range of products such as frozen fish, ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook fish products, both for export and the domestic market will be produced in this plant.

M/s ETA Engineering Company of Bangalore will construct the plant for Rs. 4.56 crore. It is expected to be ready by 9 months.
