Mangalore, Jan 14, 2012: Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, presented the keys of one of the 160 houses constructed for the poor by the Mangalore Diocese, as part of its post centenary silver jubilee celebrations, in Maroli on Jan 14 Saturday. This house is a special offering of the Holy Cross Church of Kulshekar. The bishop also unveiled the name plate of the house on the occasion.
The Mangalore Diocese is all set for its 125th anniversary celebrations, which are scheduled to be held on Feb 11 – 12. One of the projects undertaken by the diocese as part of this occasion was the construction of 160 houses for the poor, each house representing one of its parishes.
Speaking on the occasion, the bishop said that the Mangalore Diocese has undertaken several such social welfare projects in its history. He said that the diocese had replaced the thatched roofs of houses of the poor with tiled roofs in 2000 for Christmas. He also said that the project of constructing 160 houses is not yet complete, and will be continued.
Sushil Noronha, the secretary of the post centenary silver jubilee committee; Fr. Onil D’Souza, the CODP director and coordinator of the housing project; Fr. Valerian Pinto, the parish priest of Holy Cross Church; Fr. Valerian Pinto, the parish priest of Kulshekar parish; John Moras, the assistant priest of Guardian Angel Church; Fr. Mathew Vas, the parish priest of Angelore; and E. Fernandes, the proprietor of Four Winds, were also present.
