Belthangady, Feb 23, 2026: A pregnant woman gave birth to a baby inside an ambulance while being rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru in the early hours of today.

The woman, identified as Leelavathi, a resident of Sudemugeru in Belthangady नगर Panchayat limits, delivered a baby boy in the ambulance.

Delivery


She was admitted to the Belthangady Taluk Hospital early this morning for delivery. After examination, doctors advised that she be shifted to Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru for further care. Accordingly, she was being transported to Mangaluru in an emergency ambulance along with two nurses.

As the ambulance neared Farangipete in Bantwal taluk, Leelavathi experienced intense labour pain. Acting promptly, nurses Sister Kumuda and Sister Soumya S. successfully conducted the delivery inside the ambulance.

Both the mother and the newborn baby boy are reported to be in good health.

Thanks to the timely action of ambulance driver Dinesh Gowda, who ensured they reached Lady Goschen Hospital in the shortest possible time, he has been widely appreciated by the public.
