Belthangady: Forest officials seize wild meat, tools in raid; two booked for illegal hunting

Belthangady, July 15, 2025: In a case of illegal wildlife hunting, forest officials in Belthangady conducted a raid based on credible information and seized wild animal meat along with hunting equipment from a shed attached to a house in Gerukatte, Kaliya village of Belthangady taluk.

The raid was carried out on July 12 at the residence of one Jossy Alwyn Lobo in Gerukatte. During the operation, officials seized 17 kg of wild animal meat, a machete, a knife, and a car belonging to Sharath Shetty, a resident of Kulai Meginamane, Kaliya village, allegedly used for transporting the meat.


Poaching


The seized meat has been sent to a laboratory for verification and further reporting, according to forest officials.

A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act against the accused Jossy Alwyn Lobo and Sharath Shetty at the Belthangady Forest Range Office. A report has been submitted to the Belthangady court on July 13.

The operation was led by Belthangady Range Forest Officer Tyagaraj T.N., DRFO Sandeep, Raghavendra, Kiran Patil, Kamala, Beat Forester Parashuram Meti, and driver Divakar.
