Belthangady, Aug 27, 2025: A case has been registered at Belthangady Police Station against Vasanth Giliyar for allegedly making provocative remarks that could incite hatred between religions and communities and for uploading the same on YouTube.
According to police, the case has been filed under Sections 196(1)(a) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint by social activist Shekar Laila.
In his complaint, Shekar Laila stated that during the Dharma Samrakshana convention held in Bengaluru, Vasanth Giliyar had claimed that under the influence of missionaries in Belthangady, Hindu Tulsi katte shrines were broken and replaced with crosses. He also alleged that once the rural development scheme was introduced, the crosses were removed and the Tulsi kattes were reinstalled.
The complaint further noted that such statements could create mistrust and conflict between religious communities. Acting on the complaint, Belthangady Police have registered a case.
