Bantwal: House burglary in Baltila; 9 pavan of gold jewellery stolen

Bantwal, Feb 7, 2026: Thieves allegedly broke into a house at Komprabailu in Baltila village, Bantwal, and decamped with gold jewellery worth around ₹8 lakh while the family had gone to attend a temple festival. About 9 pavan of gold was reportedly stolen.


Theft


Based on a complaint filed by the house owner, Satish Shenai, a case has been registered at the Bantwal Town Police Station. According to the complaint, as the annual festival of Kshekodi Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple was being held on February 4, Shenai had locked his house and left with his wife at around 6.45 pm. When they returned home after the festival at about 10.30 pm, they found the rear door open, with the latch broken, allegedly using a tool.

On entering the house, the couple noticed that the cupboard in the room had been forcibly opened and clothes were strewn all over. Steel containers kept in the cupboard locker were found opened and scattered on the bed. The burglars allegedly stole a coral necklace weighing about 5 pavan, a pearl necklace weighing about 2.5 pavan, bendole and jhumki earrings weighing about 1.5 pavan, and ₹5,000 in cash, the complaint stated.
