Mangalore, feb 14, 2013 : Ammonia leakage reported from a fisheries factory at Harekala, Elyarapadavu near Konaje, has left one worker killed and two others seriously ill.

The tragedy took place at around 9.30 pm on February 13, Wednesday at the Indo Fisheries Factory. If Riyaz (22) of Kumble in Kasargod, died in the hospital, two others namely Haneef (23) from Kotekar Beeri and Sanket (23) from Kumble, have been hospitalized.


According to reports, ammonia gas leaked in the freezer compartment of the factory. When Riyaz, Sanket and Haneef went to check the same they were caught in the gas fumes and were rushed to the hospital.


The condition of the two workers is said to be critical. The fire service vehicles rushed to the spot soon after the incident.


Sources said there were around 300 workers in the factory when the incident took place.
