Moodbidri, January 4, 2012 : The Alva’s Virasat Award will be conferred on Pandit Ajoy Chakraborthy, the renowned Hindustani singer, during the inauguration ceremony of Alvas Virasat, which is scheduled to be held on Jan 5 – 8 at Shobhavana in Mijar in Moodubidri.
D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister of Karnataka, will inaugurate the event and confer the award, which comprises a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation, and traditional honors.
According to an official press release, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, will preside over the inauguration ceremony.
Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is also the winner of the Kumar Gandharva Award, and in 1990, he also received the President’s Award, the first classical singer of India to win this award for being the best male playback singer.
He was also invited by the Government of Pakistan to perform in Pakistan. Pandit Chakraborty has also won the gold medal from the Kolkata-based Sangeeth Research Academy and runs a music school called Shruthinandan in Kolkata. The Padmashree was conferred on him in 2011.
