75 Couples Tie the Knot at Mass Marriage Event in Dharmasthala

Dharmasthala, May 4, 2025: A total of 75 couples entered into wedlock during the 53rd free mass marriage ceremony organized by the Sri Dharmasthala Dharmothana Trust on Saturday, May 3, at Dharmasthala.

The event commenced with brides and grooms circumambulating the Manjunatheshwara Temple before proceeding in a colorful procession to the Amrutavarshini Sabhangana, the marriage venue, where the nuptial ceremonies were held.

 

Addressing the gathering, T.B. Jayachandra, Special Representative of Karnataka in New Delhi, commended the trust’s initiative, highlighting the importance of mass marriages in promoting simple and cost-effective celebrations. He praised Dharmasthala Pattadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade for his efforts in encouraging rural communities to adopt moderate spending and balanced financial planning.

Jayachandra also reflected on his past efforts as the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, expressing regret that his proposal for legislation on simple mass marriages did not garner sufficient support.

Following the rituals performed in accordance with their respective traditions, the couples vowed to lead a life of mutual respect and to abstain from harmful habits.

D. Veerendra Heggade urged the newlyweds to avoid extravagant post-marriage celebrations and emphasized the growing popularity of mass marriages as a meaningful social initiative. "I feel a deep sense of fulfillment in initiating this annual free mass marriage program at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala," he said.

The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including MLC K. Prathapsimha Nayak, Hemavathi V. Heggade, and D. Harshendra Kumar.
