Mangalore, Jan 4, 2012: Thirty-eight memorandum of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 1506.35 crore were signed at the inaugural ceremony of the Coastal Business Development Summit, the first event of its kind to be held in Mangalore, on Jan 4 Wednesday. This move is expected to generate 4,655 jobs in coastal Karnataka. 


The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coastal District Chambers of Commerce and Associations, Department of Industries and Commerce, Department of Infrastructure Development, Coastal Development Authority, and NRI Forum jointly organized the Coastal Business Development Summit at T. V. Raman Pai Convention Centre in Mangalore.

CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the summit and said in his inaugural address that the state government gives top priority to investors. He informed that the Global Investors Meet in 2010 attracted a total investment of Rs. 5 lakh crore and that 387 MOUs with the potential to general 600,000 jobs were signed. He added that 280 of these projects have already been implemented. 


Recalling the investment made during the agri-business summit recently held in Bangalore, he said that these events help generate jobs and gives farmers better value for their farm products.
Speaking about the pathetic condition of the Shirady Ghat stretch, he said that the state had sent a proposal to convert the road into a four-lane road to the central government and added that the state will try to get the road repaired by the end of January. 


Murugesh R. Nirani, the minister for large and medium scale industries; Dr. V. S. Acharya, the minister for higher education; District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar; Kageri Vishweshwar Hegde, the minister for primary and higher education; and MP Naleen Kumar Kateel were also present.
