“A good writer becomes part of public”: Jayanth Kaikini opines at Nitte Film Festival

Mangaluru, June 13, 2023: A good writer is one who becomes part of the public. Then only the public can find themselves in the writings, said Jayanth Kaikini here on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

 

 

 

He was speaking as a guest speaker at the Nitte International Film Festival 2023 on “The Art of Storytelling”.

“If you are not moved while you are writing a story, the readers will not be moved by the story later they read it. So, a good writer must have an empathetic heart and that gives the writer a successful story” he opined.

“The content of the story must have the human spark in it. Human activities will make good stories. Stories cannot be stitched together in a vacuum. Also, the unexpected situations and conditions will produce great stories” he argued.

No cinema can be made without disturbing the essence of the original story. But the art of storytelling will help you to give justice to the original story. A good director can do this from experience and talent, he said.

I have worked for the movies Ponniyan Selvan. I did not translate the songs from the original movie. But wrote fresh in Kannada. Creativity in cinema has many restrictions and limitations. But they shape you well he said.

"Cinema shaped my life"

Cinema is my canvas of life. The movie Deevar by Yash Chopra always inspires me. The most famous dialogue of the movie has influenced me in this regard - Amitabh Bachchan asks Shashikapoor, “What do you have in your life? I have a car, bungalow”. Shashikapoor replies - “Ihave my mother”. “Similarly if someone asks me what do you have in your life? I can tell I have cinema. Because it has shaped me well” he explained.

"Dr. Rajkumar is my god"

“I got an unique opportunity to work with Dr.Rajkumar while I was working with Chigurida Kanasu by Shivarama Karantha. His innocence and his default love for life and cinema has shaped my personality to a good extent” he recalled.
