Karkala: Husband files case against in-laws for hiding wife’s illness before marriage

Karkala, Sep 15, 2025: A case has been registered at Karkala Rural Police Station against the family members of a woman, following a complaint by her husband alleging that they concealed her health problems before marriage.

According to the complaint, Chetan married Vinita, daughter of Karunakar Hegde and Kavita, on December 21, 2018. At the time of marriage, Chetan had given his wife some gold ornaments. The couple later moved to Bengaluru for employment, and on December 29, 2022, they were blessed with a baby boy.

It is alleged that Vinita had vision problems before marriage and had lost sight in her right eye despite treatment. Later, it was also discovered that she was suffering from brain cancer. Chetan claimed that although Vinita’s father was aware of her health condition before marriage, he deliberately concealed it and deceived him. Despite medical treatment, Vinita passed away on December 18, 2023.

Chetan further alleged that Karunakar Hegde, Vinod, Kavita Hegde, Amita Hegde, and Vishwanath Hegde not only hid Vinita’s illness with an intention to cheat him but also failed to return the gold ornaments and mobile phone given at the time of marriage, thereby breaching his trust.
