Mangaluru, Apr 14, 2026: In a tragic development following a horrific accident at Nanthoor, a 64-year-old senior photographer, K. Mohan Chander, who had sustained critical injuries, has succumbed to treatment at a hospital.
The accident occurred on Saturday night at around 8:30 pm on National Highway 66 near Nanthoor Tharayithota. Gopalakrishna (27), a resident of Dharmasthala, was reportedly riding an FG bike from Gurupura towards his rented room in Jeppinamogaru at high speed and in a rash manner. While attempting to overtake, he rammed into Mohan Chander’s scooter, which was moving on its side of the road.
Following the collision, the biker lost control and crashed into a tipper lorry transporting mining material, resulting in his death on the spot.
Mohan Chander, who was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries, was rushed to a private hospital in Kankanady by tempo driver Gangadhar Amblamogaru with the help of the public. After battling for life for two days, he passed away on Monday morning.

A resident of Naguri, Mohan Chander owned Navya Studio in Padavinangady on the outskirts of the city. His elder daughter’s wedding was scheduled for May 10, and the family was preparing for the celebrations. However, his untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over the household that was once filled with joy.
Mohan Chander was a life member of the South Canara Photographers’ Association and was actively involved in several organizations. The association has expressed deep condolences over his demise.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Tragically, Mohan Chander lost his life through no fault of his own. The reckless riding of the biker has extinguished the light in two families.
