Belthangady: MDMA trafficking busted in Venur; drugs worth Rs 40,000 seized, two arrested

Belthangady, May 29, 2026: Venur police have arrested two persons for allegedly transporting banned MDMA narcotic substance in a car from Guruvayanakere towards Moodbidri.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tanveer (27), a resident of Handelu in Puthige village of Mangaluru taluk, and Mohammed Salwan (22), a resident of Kallabettu in Moodbidri.

Based on credible information received by Venur Police Sub-Inspector Akshay Davagi, police personnel conducted a naka checking operation near Kambaladadda on the Guruvayanakere–Moodbidri road on May 27.

During the vehicle inspection, police intercepted an i20 car bearing registration number KA-13-P-2905 and found 4 grams of MDMA allegedly being transported for sale. Police said the seized narcotic substance is estimated to be worth around Rs 40,000.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that the drugs had been supplied for sale by one Hamzath Karar, a resident of Sunnath Kere in Kuvettu village of Belthangady taluk.

The arrested accused were produced before the judge’s residence in Mangaluru on May 28, and were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The third accused, Hamzath Karar, is absconding, and police have launched a search to trace and arrest him.
