Mangaluru: Two traffic policemen injured after speeding car hits them, one critical

Mangaluru, May 28, 2026: Two traffic policemen on duty were injured after a car rammed into them near a warehouse at Mannagudda in the city on Tuesday night. One of the injured policemen is said to be in serious condition.

The injured have been identified as Head Constable Vittal Das and Constable Kumar of the Mangaluru City Traffic West Police Station. Vittal Das sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, the personnel had gone near the warehouse at Mannagudda at around 11 pm on Tuesday to inspect another accident case. During this time, a car bearing registration number KA-19-MP-9623, which was allegedly being driven rashly and at high speed from the Ballalbagh side, hit Head Constable Vittal Das, who was standing by the roadside.

Police said a few people present at the spot managed to escape narrowly at the time of the accident.

A case has been registered at the Mangaluru Traffic West Police Station under Crime No. 33/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(B) of the BNS, and further investigation is underway.
