Bantwal: Two arrested for illegal cattle slaughter, six cattle rescued

Bantwal, May 29, 2026: Bantwal Town Police busted an illegal cattle slaughter racket at Panjaje in Sajipamooda village and arrested two accused persons. Police also rescued six live cattle and seized meat, a car, and equipment allegedly used for the illegal activity.

The arrested accused have been identified as Musthapa (33), a resident of Sajipamooda in Bantwal, and Mohammed Sadiq (30), a resident of B Kasaba, Bantwal.

According to police, the raid was conducted on the night of May 27 after Bantwal Town Police Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Shettigar received credible information regarding illegal cattle slaughter activities.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the PSI along with police personnel raided a premises at Panjaje in Sajipamooda village. During the inspection, officials reportedly found meat being cut inside a shed located behind the house. During questioning, police confirmed that the accused were carrying out the activity illegally without the required licence or official permission.

Officials said that one animal had already been slaughtered during the raid and the cut meat was seized. Police also rescued six live cattle, seized a car suspected to have been used for transportation, and recovered other materials linked to the alleged offence.

The accused, rescued cattle, and seized properties have been taken into custody for further legal action. Bantwal Town Police have registered a case under Crime No. 68/2026 under Sections 4, 7, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
