“Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries,” the British Transport Police said on X, adding that counter-terrorism units were assisting with the investigation.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos, with passengers hiding in washrooms and others trampled in the rush to escape. One passenger told The Times newspaper that there was “blood everywhere” and that they saw a man wielding a large knife.

“My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their swift response,” he said in a statement on X.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed that two suspects had been taken into custody and urged the public to follow police guidance as the investigation continues.
