Shraddha murder horror returns: Woman, son chop husband into pieces, store in fridge in Delhi, held

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Nov 28, 2022: As details about the grisly murder of Shraddha Walkar continues to unravel, the Crime Branch has found clues pointing to a similar murder in East Delhi. A woman and her son were arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering her husband, chopping up the body, storing the pieces in a fridge and then disposing them off.

New Delhi

Anjan Das, a resident of Pandav Nagar in the eastern part of the city, was allegedly murdered and chopped into several pieces. The pieces were kept in a fridge before the woman and her son disposed them off in the neighborhood.

"Poonam married Anjan Das in 2017 after her husband Kallu passed away in 2016. Kallu was Deepak’s father. Deceased Anjan was married in Bihar too and had eight children there. He wasn’t earning and often use to fight," Amit Goel, DCP Crime said.

"The mother-son made deceased Anjan drink liquor and mixed sleeping pills in it. Then they slit his throat and left the body in the home for a day for the blood to drain out completely. Then they chopped the body into 10 pieces and six pieces have been recovered," he added.

The mother-son duo painted the house after storing the body parts in the fridge to avoid the obnoxious smell, sources said.

Das was allegedly killed by Poonam and her son Deepak in a case that has eerie similarities to Shraddha Walkar murder. In May, Aaftab Ameen Poonawala murdered his live-in partner Shraddha, chopped her into 35 pieces, stored them in a 300-litre fridge and later scattered them across Mehrauli forest.

A severed head and hands were found in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri area in June but police could not identify the victim. Months later, an investigation was launched when the officers were trying to recover Shraddha’s body parts. Now it has been found that the body parts found in a decomposed state in June belong to Anjan Das.

WHY WAS ANJAN DAS MURDERED?

According to police, Poonam and her son Deepak killed Anjan Das over an illicit affair. The victim was first given sleeping pills and later murdered, they added.

The woman and her son then allegedly cut up his body, stored the pieces in a fridge and scattered them across Pandav Nagar and nearby areas. The police officers have recovered six pieces, but the torso is still missing, sources said.

The body was chopped up using a knife and another sharp weapon. Both were kept in the freezer, Delhi Police sources added. The sharp weapon has been recovered and a search is on to find the knife used in the murder.

The police have accessed CCTV footage that shows Deepak walking with a bag in his hand late at night, during one of his trips to throw away the pieces, police said.

The severed leg was found on June 5. A case was registered the next day and an investigation was launched to identify the victim. A day later, the severed head was found in the same neighbourhood. A DNA test later confirmed the murder of Anjan Das.

Further investigation is underway.
