Leaked defence info, sent SIM cards to Pakistan: Delhi couple arrested for allegedly spying for ISI

New Delhi, Aug 28, 2026: A Delhi-based couple has been arrested by the Special Cell for allegedly working for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) since 2024 and providing logistical support to a Pakistani espionage network, police said.

The accused have been identified as Sahil, 25, and his wife Sameera, 21. They are suspected of leaking sensitive information related to India’s defence establishments to Pakistani handlers.

According to police, Sahil came in contact with a Pakistani agent on Instagram in 2024 through Sameera, whom he later married. The agent allegedly introduced the couple to a Pakistani intelligence operative who recruited them into the espionage network in return for financial benefits.

The couple was allegedly tasked with providing logistical support to Pakistani intelligence operatives in Delhi and recruiting others for espionage and reconnaissance activities.

Police said that during 2024 and 2025, the couple allegedly sent eight Indian SIM cards to Pakistan via Dubai and received around ₹30,000 in return. The SIM cards were reportedly used to activate WhatsApp accounts, which Pakistani handlers and intelligence operatives allegedly used to gain access to Indian WhatsApp groups and gather sensitive information.

Investigators also alleged that Sahil was tasked with recruiting individuals to conduct reconnaissance of military cantonment areas at various locations in India. He was also allegedly asked to collect details about Army personnel whose court-martial proceedings were pending before tribunals.

During the investigation, police recovered two mobile phones from the accused. Forensic analysis of the devices reportedly revealed incriminating WhatsApp chats and other conversations between the couple and Pakistani handlers.

Police said interrogation of Sahil led to the arrest of Sameera, who allegedly played a key role in providing SIM cards to Pakistani operatives.

The arrests have helped investigators uncover the alleged modus operandi of the Pakistani intelligence network, including how its handlers coordinated with over-ground operatives and sleeper cells through encrypted communication platforms. The investigation is underway.
