Bengaluru, Jun 23, 2026: The Karnataka High Court on Monday refused to stay the investigation against a Bengaluru-based doctor accused of posting Instagram reels alleging that Nandini strawberry milk was spurious.
Dr. Sharanya Padma had approached the High Court challenging the FIR registered by the Malleswaram police under Section 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel sought interim relief, arguing that the Instagram reel was aimed at the strawberry flavouring used in the product and not at Nandini milk itself. The counsel also informed the court that the doctor had subsequently issued an apology for the reels.
However, Justice M. Nagaprasanna questioned the petitioner’s actions and expressed concern over the potential impact of such social media posts on the public.
“You cannot generate panic among the public by saying milk is spurious and strawberry flavour is not good. If it is not good, don’t consume it. Why create such issues? Did anyone ask you to conduct a test? At the drop of a hat, statements are made that create problems in society. Instagram is not meant for that. Have you communicated your concerns to the government?” the judge orally observed.
The court issued notices to the police and R. Padmavati, Director of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and complainant in the case, while declining to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
The matter has been adjourned for further hearing.
