Bengaluru: Man who sharpened murder weapons shot in leg after attacking cop

Bengaluru, Aug 28, 2026: A 34-year-old man, who allegedly sharpened the weapons used in the recent murder of a pharmacist in Bengaluru, was shot in the leg after he attacked a police officer during an attempt to apprehend him, officials said on Friday.

The suspect has been identified as Syed Zeeshan, 34, a resident of Subhash Nagar in Begur.

According to police, strict checks were being conducted around midnight to curb the activities of rowdy elements and as part of the investigation into the August 22 murder of Syed Suhail, a medical shop owner in Madiwala.

The investigation reportedly revealed that Zeeshan had sharpened the machetes used to kill Suhail. Police also said he was an associate of rowdy-sheeter Adil Akmal, who is the key accused in the murder.

The police team led by Bandepalya Police Station PSI Sachin HR, along with Head Constable Erappa Dundi and constables Sandeep Kamble, Sharath and Basavaraju, received information that a man carrying dangerous weapons was moving suspiciously towards Somasandrapalya on an orange Honda Dio (KA-51-EY-3831).

The team reached the spot around 12.40 am and attempted to intercept Zeeshan. However, he allegedly fled on his scooter towards a ground near Somasandrapalya Lake, prompting the police to chase him.

Police said Zeeshan stopped his scooter and, after being surrounded by the officers, allegedly threatened them with a long sword. He reportedly swung the weapon, injuring Constable Sandeep Kamble on his left bicep.

Zeeshan allegedly then threw chilli powder at the other policemen and attempted to attack them with a machete. PSI Sachin fired a warning shot into the air and asked him to surrender. When he allegedly refused and continued to pose a threat, the PSI shot him in the right shin in self-defence.

After receiving first aid, both Zeeshan and the injured constable were shifted to a hospital for further treatment.

A case has been registered at Bandepalya police station under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the BNS, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

Police have seized the scooter and three weapons. The investigation is underway.
