Bengaluru, May 02, 2024: Karnataka is one of those places that people look up to to get relief from their everyday hectic lives. The state is blessed with multiple natural retreats in the form of magnificent waterfalls, hill stations, etc which is enough to fill everyone’s heart with joy.

 

Waterfalls


Be it the Shivanasamudra Falls or the Gokak Falls, they all are beautiful beyond words. Let us take a look at the famous waterfalls in Karnataka you must visit.

1. Jog Falls


One of the highest waterfalls in India, it has the distinction of being called the ‘Niagara of India’. The waterfalls are formed when the Sharavathi River falls from a height of 253 meters in four streams named – Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer.

2.Shivanasamudra Falls


It is located in Mandya district, about 81 km from Mysuru. Two streams of water namely, Gaganachukki Falls and Baharachukki Falls form the Shivanasamudra Falls.

3. Abbey Waterfalls


Abbey Waterfalls is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kodagu, Karnataka. It is surrounded by spice plantations and many coffee estates and is located about 8 Kilometres away from Madikeri bus station.

4. Hebbe Falls


Hebbe Falls is situated inside the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve. The Fall descends into two stages, Dodda Hebbe(Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe(Small Falls). To reach Hebbe Falls, you would have to cover a small distance of 2km from the parking lot.

5. Magod Falls


Magod Falls is another prominent waterfall in North Canara (Uttar Kannada) district, in Yellapur taluk, on river Bedti. Here, the Bedthi River takes two distinct leaps, falling from a height of 650 feet into a rocky ravine.

6. Lalguli Waterfalls

Lalguli Falls is a lesser-known and multi-stage waterfall in Uttara Kannada district. Lalguli waterfall occurs where River Kali drops down at different places, with heights varying between 61 and 91 meters.

7. Irupu Falls


It is located between the two villages of Kutta and Srimangala in Coorg District. The locals also name it the Lakshmana Tirtha Falls. Mythology connects the falls to the Hindu epic, Ramayana and hence it got its other name Lakshmana Tirtha Falls.

8. Hogenakkal Waterfalls

The name Hogenakal is derived from Kannada and means Smoky Rocks. The river when falls on the rock below, and the gushing force of water resembles smoke emerging from the rocks.
