Mangalore, Aug 3, 2013 : The Airports Authority of India has given its green signal for a Rs 35 crore project of constructing a parallel taxiway at the Mangalore International Airport .

The tenders have already been invited and sources say the contract would be awarded to a Delhi based company. The project works are likely to begin shortly and completed by December end 2014.
The airport at present has only one 250 meter long taxiway that is used both for entry and exit from the runway. An aircraft that is ready to take off will have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes if its departure timing clashes with a flight that is about to land. It has to wait till the arriving plane completes its course on the runway and rolls into the parking area (apron) at the terminal building.
This is set to become a thing of the past once the new taxiway is ready and there will be separate and fixed entry and exit paths. The new taxiway will be 600 meter long.
