Udupi, Feb 24, 2012 : Mercury came very close to the moon on the night of Feb 23 Thursday, presenting a visual treat to star gazers.
A number of star gazers used the facilities provided at Poorna Prajna Amateur Astronomers Club in Poorna Prajna College to observe this phenomenon from Malpe Beach from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Star gazers were especially delighted when they caught a sight of planets Mars, Jupiter, and Venus too.
Mercury was at an angle of 21 degrees from the horizon, Venus at 40 degrees, and Jupiter at 60 degrees to the west. Mars was positioned to the east.
On Feb 25, star gazers can watch the moon pass Venus at an angle of 3 degrees, making a spectacular sight.
Shri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt was also one of the fascinated star gazers.
