Mangalore, Aug 18, 2011 : Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt said on Wednesday that Anna Hazare should go on a week-long fast to exert pressure on the union government to implement a powerful anti-corruption bill.
The seer released a press statement in which he urged the Gandhian to embark on an indefinite hunger strike only if the Jan Lokpal Bill drafted by the civil society is rejected in parliament.
Assuring Mr. Hazare of his support, he said that arresting a social leader for campaigning against corruption was an act to be condemned.
Stating that the Team Anna movement is not to undermine democracy, he clarified that its only demands were to implement a powerful and highly effective Jan Lokpal Bill, which can make the country free of corruption in a democratic way.
He also remarked that the government’s Jan Lokpal Bill was too weak to serve the purpose of eradicating corruption.
