Chandigarh, Apr 7, 2026: Two months after her expulsion from the Punjab Congress, former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu has announced the launch of a new political outfit — the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party.
Kaur, wife of former cricketer and ex-Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, made the announcement late Monday night on social media platform X.
She was earlier suspended by the Punjab Congress after triggering a controversy with her “Rs 500 crore for chief minister’s chair” remark, and was later expelled for repeatedly criticising Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Describing it as a “much-awaited announcement,” Kaur shared a post unveiling the new party, stating that it aims to offer a national-level alternative after assessing the current performance of political leaders.
She said the initiative is driven by a commitment to serve the nation, ensure justice and peace, and work with like-minded individuals toward a common goal. Kaur also expressed her vision of restoring Punjab’s “Golden State” status, emphasising values such as love, justice, freedom, and selfless service.
Kaur was elected MLA from Amritsar East in 2012 on a BJP ticket and served as chief parliamentary secretary (health). She later joined the Congress ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections along with her husband.
In recent months, she had strongly criticised party leadership, particularly targeting Warring, accusing him of damaging the state unit. Her continued attacks, including remarks against Rahul Gandhi, eventually led to her expulsion, which was formally announced by Congress general secretary Bhupesh Baghel on February 6.
