Bengaluru, Apr 6, 2026: A 26-year-old truck driver allegedly died by suicide inside his vehicle, a day after being caught by traffic police for drunk driving in the JP Nagar area.
The deceased, identified as Shanmugam, a native of Tamil Nadu, was found hanging inside his truck early Sunday morning near Outer Ring Road, close to 22nd Main Road within JP Nagar limits. Police have registered a case of unnatural death at the JP Nagar Police Station.
According to police, traffic personnel were conducting a drunk driving check around 11 pm on Saturday in JP Nagar. During the inspection, Shanmugam was found driving under the influence of alcohol. He was issued a notice, and his vehicle was parked about 100 metres from the police station.
On Sunday morning, however, he was discovered hanging inside the same truck, police said.
Following the incident, JP Nagar police visited the spot and carried out an inspection. The body has been sent for postmortem, and his family in Tamil Nadu has been informed.
Providing further details, Lokesh B Jagalasar said the interaction during the drunk driving check was recorded on body-worn cameras. He added that Shanmugam later parked the truck by the roadside and died by suicide inside it.
