Mangaluru, Apr 8, 2026: Alleging the rise of illegal practices in LPG distribution, DYFI district president B.K. Imtiaz accused “gas mafia” groups of exploiting the ongoing global tensions, including the US-Iran situation, to make undue profits.
Speaking at a protest held in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in the city, organized by the DYFI Dakshina Kannada district committee, Imtiaz claimed that gas agencies were deliberately delaying supply and engaging in black-market activities. He further alleged that the district administration has failed to curb such illegal operations.
Despite a reported shortage of LPG in the state, Imtiaz said that around 300 additional bullet tankers are being dispatched ежедневно from the HPCL gas plant in Mangaluru to Maharashtra. He accused vested interests of creating an artificial shortage in the country to maximize profits, thereby burdening the common public.
DYFI district secretary Santosh Bajal, addressing the gathering, criticized the central government for denying any gas shortage, calling such statements misleading. He also accused the state government of neglecting public distribution systems, even as citizens stand in long queues outside gas agencies. He urged the district administration to take strict action against illegal LPG trade.
Several DYFI leaders and members, along with representatives from progressive and women’s organizations, were present at the protest.
The speakers warned that if gas agencies fail to ensure proper and timely distribution, DYFI activists would lay siege to the agencies and intensify their agitation in the coming days.
