Uppinangady Govt College impasse continues : Huge protest by ABVP

Uppinangady, July 30, 2013:  Students of the Uppinangady Government First Grade College, under the aegis of the ABVP staged a huge protest in the town on July 29, Monday   demanding steps to crack down disruptive elements which were giving scope for clashes in the college.

The agitators also demanded withdrawal of the ‘false’ case of rape attempt registered against a student of the college.

 The students who took out a procession on the main streets of the town, later staged a protest outside the village office. Addressing the protestors, ABVP State Secretary K Ramesh, alleged that the police have registered a case of rape attempt on one of the students named Ranjith just because he has identified himself with the ABVP. He said the student was booked on the pretext that he pulled the hair of the student of another community.

He said the protest will continue until justice was done in the case. ABVP Taluk Convenor Sharath and others spoke.

Later, the students submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Assistant Commissioner Prasanna Kumar. Tight security was maintained in the wake of the protest.

 Presently, Mary, a lecturer of the college has been made in-charge Principal after the earlier principal Dr Subrahmanya Bhat  failed to effectively tackle the situation in the college.  The police have instructed the principal to initiate strict action against students who flout the college rules.
