Uppinangady: Crocodile Spotted in Nethravathi River, Residents Alarmed

Mangalore Today News Network

Uppinangady, June 29, 2025: A lone crocodile was spotted in the Nethravathi River at Panjala near Uppinangady on Saturday, sparking fear among residents. Reports of crocodile sightings in both the Nethravathi and Kumaradhara Rivers have left the local community on edge.

Crocodile Spotted in Nethravathi River

Recently, a large crocodile was seen resting on the banks of the Kumaradhara River near Nekkiladi. Upon noticing a crowd, it retreated into the river. Following this, a smaller crocodile was sighted on Saturday in Panjala.

Over the past three years, crocodiles have been increasingly observed in the Nethravathi River near Uppinangady. With the river remaining full throughout the year, experts speculate that crocodiles may have made it their permanent habitat.

The recurring sightings have raised public concerns about the safety of engaging in river activities, as the waters of the Nethravathi may pose a growing risk in the days ahead.
