Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 29, 2025: A job aspirant was allegedly defrauded of ₹16 lakh in a job scam orchestrated by an academy in Kodialbail, Mangaluru.

According to the complainant, her son responded to a Facebook advertisement by the academy, which claimed to arrange employment visas within 90 days for ₹16 lakh. The complainant’s son visited the academy’s office, where a man named Suraj Joseph demanded an advance payment of ₹2 lakh in cash while verifying his documents. Subsequently, Suraj pressured the victim to pay the remaining amount, warning that delays would lead to visa cancellation.

The complainant transferred ₹3 lakh from her daughter’s account on October 27, 2023, and ₹13 lakh on December 1, 2023. Despite paying the full amount, the job aspirant did not receive a visa.

When the complainant visited the academy’s office on March 20, 2024, the accused provided a written assurance on stamp paper, promising to secure the visa within three months or refund the amount within six months. The document bore the office seal and the accused’s signature. However, neither the visa nor the refund materialized.

In a subsequent visit, the accused issued an account-payee cheque for ₹16 lakh, dated October 3, 2024, in the name of the complainant’s son. When presented for clearance on December 16, 2024, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds.

A case has been registered at the Mangaluru North Police Station, and investigations are underway.
