Bhopal, June 29, 2025: The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended seven engineers, including two chief engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD), over the faulty design of the newly constructed Rail Over Bridge (ROB) in the Aishbagh area, which features an unusual 90-degree turn.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the action late on Saturday, citing "serious negligence" in the construction. "I took cognisance of the design flaws in the Aishbagh ROB and ordered an inquiry. Based on the inquiry report, action has been initiated against eight PWD engineers," Yadav said on X (formerly Twitter).

The suspended engineers include two chief engineers, while a departmental inquiry will also be conducted against a retired superintendent engineer, according to the chief minister. Additionally, the construction agency and the design consultant responsible for the project have been blacklisted.

To address the design issues, a committee has been formed to suggest and implement necessary improvements to the ROB. "The bridge will only be inaugurated after these improvements are made," Yadav added.

The ROB has drawn widespread criticism and ridicule from local residents and social media users, who have questioned how vehicles would navigate the sharp 90-degree turn. The controversy has raised concerns over accountability and the safety of public infrastructure.
