Puttur, June 28, 2025: A pregnant student gave birth to a baby boy on Friday at a private hospital in Puttur, in a case where a man allegedly developed a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage and later refused to marry her after she became pregnant.

The accused, Krishna J Rao, son of BJP leader Jagannivas Rao from Puttur, has already been booked under charges of rape and breach of trust at the Puttur Women’s Police Station. Following the filing of the complaint, Krishna has reportedly gone absconding.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, she and Krishna were classmates during high school and continued their relationship even after graduation. The girl, currently pursuing a B.Sc degree at a private college in Mangaluru, stated that Krishna invited her to his house on October 11, 2024, when no one was home. There, he allegedly coerced her into a physical relationship, assuring her they would get married.

Later, in January 2025, he is said to have forced himself on her again. Eventually, the girl discovered she was pregnant and informed Krishna, who then refused to marry her.

The victim, a resident of Puttur, claimed that she and Krishna had been in a long-term relationship and that he had repeatedly assaulted her physically at his house. After learning of the pregnancy, she informed her parents, who then approached Krishna’s family. Though his family initially agreed to the marriage, Krishna ultimately rejected the proposal.

Following the complaint filed on the night of June 24, the Puttur police registered a case against Krishna Rao under Sections 64(1) and 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Krishna is currently on the run, and police have launched a search operation to trace him.

As per the FIR, Krishna had lured the girl to his house on October 11 under the pretext of marriage and allegedly tried to force himself on her. When she resisted, he convinced her to stay silent, promising to marry her. He reportedly repeated the same act in January.
