Kasargod: Son who set ablaze mother arrested in Kollur

Kasargod, June 27, 2025: A man who had fled after killing his mother by setting her ablaze at Varkady on Thursday morning, has been arrested at Kollur the same evening.

The accused is Melwyn (33). He had killed his mother Hilda Monteiro (60) by taking her to the backyard of the house and pouring petrol on her. He had then discarded the body amid bushes near his house. He had also tried to set ablaze a relative named Lolita who stayed nearby.

The motive behind the murder is not known. The accused had fled in an autorickshaw to Hosangady and from there t Mangaluru and Kollur by bus.
