Mangaluru, Aug 3, 2026: A 49-year-old MESCOM lineman was killed after suffering an electric shock while carrying out repair work on a transformer that was allegedly not disconnected from the power supply at Uchila Nayapattna in Ullal taluk on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Zameer (49), a resident of Ambika Road, Pilar.
According to reports, MESCOM had received a complaint regarding a fault in the transformer at Uchila Nayapattna. Zameer, along with his colleague Sangappa, visited the site to carry out repair work.
Believing that the Group Operated Switch (GOS) had been turned off, Zameer climbed the transformer to begin the repairs. However, the transformer was still live, and he suffered a severe electric shock, which threw him to the ground.
He was rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
