Ullal: Fake D-Mart job advertisement goes viral; hundreds of job seekers misled at Kumpala bypass

Mangalore Today News Network

Ullal, Jan 16, 2026: A branch of the country’s well-known shopping mall chain D-Mart is under construction at Kumpala Bypass in Ullal taluk. However, miscreants have circulated a false job advertisement on social media claiming that employment opportunities are available at the mall. Hundreds of innocent job seekers who rushed to the site in search of work were shocked after hearing the truth from the security personnel there.

This incident stands as a clear example of how social media can be misused. The fake job advertisement circulated in the name of the new D-Mart at Kumpala Bypass may have given some people momentary satisfaction, but listening to the plight of those who believed the false claims and came seeking jobs would sadden anyone.

D-Mart

The advertisement claimed that staff were required for the D-Mart shopping mall under construction at Kumpala Bypass and that job opportunities were available for everyone—from illiterate workers to graduates. This message has been going viral on social media for the past four to five days. Notably, the advertisement did not mention any official D-Mart phone number or email address. Even several well-educated individuals failed to verify the information and forwarded it to various WhatsApp groups, besides posting it as their status.

Believing the advertisement, large numbers of people gathered in front of the D-Mart site at the bypass from yesterday, desperately seeking jobs. In reality, D-Mart has not issued any job advertisement so far. The security staff had a tough time explaining this to the job seekers who had arrived with hopes of employment.

According to the security personnel, the D-Mart shopping mall is expected to begin operations by the end of February, and construction work is still incomplete. Despite this, more than 500 people have already visited the site since yesterday alone in search of jobs, they said.
