Udupi: Youth out on bail arrested again for allegedly raping young woman in isolated area

Udupi, Dec 1, 2025: The Udupi Women’s Police have arrested a Hindu Jagaran Vedike activist in connection with the rape of a young woman in a deserted area.

The arrested accused has been identified as Pradeep Poojari (26), a member of the Nayarkodu unit of the Perdur Hindu Jagaran Vedike. He had been continuously pressuring a young woman to marry him, but she had refused. She had earlier filed a complaint against him at the Hiriyadka Police Station, following which he was arrested and later released on bail.

Rape case

According to the complaint, on November 29, driven by the same resentment, Pradeep Poojari allegedly confronted the woman while she was walking through a deserted area and again forced her to agree to marriage. When she refused, he reportedly strangled her neck to threaten her and then raped her.

The woman informed her family, who subsequently approached the Udupi Women’s Police Station and lodged a complaint. Based on the FIR, the police arrested the accused and produced him before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
