Mangaluru, Jun 23, 2026: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader on Tuesday said that only those who have worked for the Congress and supported the party have the right to comment on its internal affairs.
Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru in response to a press conference by a group of Muslim leaders demanding ministerial representation for the community, Khader said people who neither supported nor voted for the Congress should refrain from advising the party.
“The Congress does not need lessons from self-styled like-minded groups. Those who opposed the party in the past have no reason to dictate terms to it now. Only those who voted for the Congress and worked for its growth have the right to speak about it,” he said.
Khader asserted that the Congress has consistently provided opportunities to minorities, including ministerial positions and other important responsibilities. He said the party leadership, including the Chief Minister and the state president, remains committed to ensuring adequate representation for minorities.
“Zameer Ahmed, we, and all Muslims are united. The party leadership will continue to provide opportunities to minorities,” he said, adding that the party would not attach importance to opinions aimed at creating unnecessary political controversy.
On the proposed Bidadi Township project, Khader said discussions concerning issues affecting the people of the state should take place in the Vidhana Soudha rather than through casual conversations during travel.
“The Vidhana Soudha is the appropriate forum to discuss matters concerning the people of Karnataka. Such issues should be debated there so that everyone can understand them properly,” he said.
He also urged JD(S) leaders to clarify who had originally issued the notification for the Bidadi Township project.
“They should tell the people who notified the project in the first place. The public deserves to know the truth,” he said.
Reiterating the Congress government’s commitment to farmers, Khader said the party has always stood by the farming community.
“Farmers of this country are a model for the world. The Congress remains committed to their welfare, and the Chief Minister has already made it clear that no project detrimental to farmers will be implemented,” he said.
He added that the proposed project would benefit farmers and their families.
Responding to a question on criticism by some coastal Congress leaders on social media over the selection of actor Rishab Shetty as ambassador for coastal tourism, Khader said it was not possible to react to every social media post.
“The Chief Minister will take an appropriate decision on the matter and address it accordingly,” he said.
