Bengaluru, Aug. 15, 2026: A 32-year-old man from Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district allegedly strangled his wife to death before ending his own life at their residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, on August 14.

The deceased have been identified as Padmavathi (29) and Sumanth Jain (32).

Killed and suicide

Sumanth, a native of Elaneeru in Malavanthige village of Belthangady taluk, was working as a civil engineer, while Padmavathi was employed at a company near Whitefield in Bengaluru.

According to preliminary investigations, the couple had an argument on Thursday night, which is believed to have escalated into a violent confrontation. Police suspect that Sumanth strangled his wife during the dispute.

It is also reported that Sumanth sent a voice message to his mother stating that he was going to end his life. In the message, he allegedly asked family members to collect his provident fund (PF) savings and take possession of the belongings in the house.

Following the incident, Sumanth is believed to have died by suicide.

The Rajagopalnagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

The couple had married for love about three years ago and had been living in Bengaluru for the past one and a half years. Police said a domestic dispute reportedly broke out between the two on Thursday, and the situation later turned fatal.
