RSS, BJP removing names through SIR to create ‘Hindu Rashtra’, alleges B K Hariprasad

Mangaluru, Jun 23, 2026: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President B K Hariprasad on Tuesday accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to manipulate electoral rolls through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alleging that the exercise was aimed at disenfranchising minorities and Congress supporters as part of a larger agenda to establish a “Hindu Rashtra.”

Addressing the SIR Jana Jagruti Samavesha titled ‘Namma Nade, Matha Rakshane Kade’ at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru, Hariprasad urged Congress workers to remain vigilant throughout the voter list revision process.

He alleged that while individuals with fake educational certificates could rise to the highest offices in the country, ordinary citizens were being denied their voting rights due to documentation requirements.

“The RSS and BJP are looking for ways to remove the names of minorities, including Christians and Muslims, as well as Congress supporters, from the electoral rolls. Their objective is to create a Hindu Rashtra, and deleting names from voter lists is part of that agenda,” he claimed.

Hariprasad warned that any negligence in monitoring the voter list revision process could have serious implications for democracy and the Constitution. Citing West Bengal as an example, he said around 27 lakh voters had reportedly been placed under adjudication as “suspicious individuals.”

Criticising the BJP, he alleged that the party had little faith in democratic institutions, the Constitution, or the national flag, despite describing itself as a “party with a difference.”

The KPCC chief also expressed concern that vulnerable communities, including Malekudiyas, Koragas, nomadic groups, daily wage labourers and migrant workers, could be excluded from electoral rolls due to lack of documentation or insufficient outreach by officials.

Calling upon Congress workers to actively participate in the SIR exercise, Hariprasad stressed the need to ensure that no eligible voter was left out. He underscored the importance of appointing Booth Level Agents (BLA-1 and BLA-2) and cautioned party leaders that weak booth-level organisation could affect their future electoral prospects.

“Those aspiring to become MLAs, MPs or ministers must take responsibility for strengthening booth-level work. If we are not vigilant now, many of us may not get an opportunity to represent the people in the future,” he said.

Describing the SIR exercise as one of the biggest challenges before the Congress, Hariprasad reiterated that the party had no objection to the removal of fake or duplicate voters but opposed the deletion of genuine voters from the rolls.

Former Legislative Council Chairman V R Sudarshan said Booth Level Agents should accompany Booth Level Officers during their household visits beginning June 30 as part of the revision process. He urged party workers to help voters obtain the necessary documents and ensure that enumeration forms reached all eligible citizens.

He noted that the draft electoral roll would be published on August 5 and urged party workers to carefully verify the list and file objections wherever discrepancies were found. Sudarshan also advised District Congress Committee presidents to appoint competent lawyers in every Assembly constituency to assist citizens in submitting objections related to voter list irregularities.
