Grandson arrested for robbing grandmother of gold bangles worth Rs 5 lakh

Bantwal, Aug 18, 2026: Punjalakatte police have cracked a robbery case in which an 82-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed of gold bangles worth around Rs 5 lakh, and arrested her own grandson in connection with the crime.

The arrested accused has been identified as Shabeer, 33, a resident of Tenka Kajekaru in Bantwal taluk.

Theft case

According to the police, the incident took place on August 14 at Uddada Gudde in Tenka Kajekaru, when the elderly woman, Avvamma, was alone at home. A man with his face covered reportedly entered the house, tied a cloth around her face and forcibly pulled two gold bangles weighing around 40 grams from her hands. She sustained injuries to her hand during the incident.

A case was registered following the incident. During the investigation, police found that Avvamma’s grandson Shabeer was allegedly involved in the robbery.

Police said the two gold bangles were recovered from his possession.
