Mangaluru: GAIL pipes, garbage choke drain near Nanthoor; residents demand immediate action

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jun 23, 2026: Residents have urged the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and other concerned authorities to take immediate steps to clear and repair a roadside drain near the Nanthoor Police Outpost and the Mangaluru-bound bus stop, alleging that the issue has remained unresolved for more than three years.

According to local residents, pipes belonging to GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) have been stacked inside the roadside concrete drain for an extended period. The presence of the pipes, coupled with the accumulation of garbage, has led to frequent blockages in the drainage system.

As a result, rainwater and wastewater often overflow onto the road, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians using the busy stretch. Residents claim that despite repeatedly bringing the matter to the attention of the concerned departments, no action has been taken so far.

The prolonged delay has raised questions among locals regarding the authorities’ apparent inaction. They have urged officials to address the issue without further delay and ensure that the drain is cleared and repaired before it leads to a serious accident or other untoward incidents.
