Udupi, September 7, 2025: The Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (Udupi-CSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited, launched the third in a series of six 3,800 TDW general cargo vessels being built for Norway-based Wilson ASA.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa launched the vessel at a ceremony held at the yard on Saturday. The ship measures 89.43 metres in length, 13.2 metres in breadth, and has a draft of 4.2 metres.
Designed by Conoship International, Netherlands, the vessels are eco-friendly, diesel-electric powered, and intended for coastal cargo operations in Europe.
The first vessel, Wilson Eco I, was delivered on April 23, 2025, and the second, Wilson Eco II, will be handed over on September 11. The first ship is already in service in European waters.
Wilson ASA, one of Europe’s leading short-sea fleet operators, transports about 15 million tonnes of dry cargo annually and manages around 130 vessels ranging from 1,500 to 8,500 DWT. The company has also placed a follow-on order for eight 6,300 TDW dry cargo vessels with Udupi-CSL.
Since its takeover by Cochin Shipyard, Udupi-CSL has delivered two 62T and two 70T Bollard Pull Tugs to Indian operators and is currently building 12 more 70T tugs.
