Mangaluru, Mar 1, 2026: Surathkal Police Station police arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to sell the banned synthetic drug MDMA near the Mukka weighing bridge on February 27.
The accused have been identified as Zakariya (38), a resident of Mazoor Kombugudde in Kaup, Udupi district, and Mithun Poojary (23) from Abbanukudru, Tenkabettu in Santhekatte Ulloor village.

Acting on credible information, police reached the spot around 4.15 pm and found two cars parked side-by-side. During questioning, the duo allegedly admitted that they had come to sell MDMA to college students and others in the Surathkal area.
Police seized 18.42 grams of MDMA from Zakariya and 36.18 grams from Mithun Poojary, totalling 54.6 grams valued at ₹5.41 lakh. Two cars worth ₹13 lakh, two mobile phones valued at ₹20,000, and ₹11,700 in cash were also recovered. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹18.72 lakh.
A case has been registered at Surathkal Police Station under the NDPS Act.
Police said Zakariya is a habitual offender with five previous cases, including assault and kidnapping charges registered at various police stations in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
