Chikkamagaluru, December 24, 2025: Three blackbucks were found dead with bullet injuries after suspected gunfire near Kallenahalli village in Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Tuesday.
The carcasses were discovered on private agricultural land adjacent to the Basur Amruth Mahal Kaval Blackbuck Conservation Reserve. Forest officials said the animals included two females, aged between one-and-a-half and two years.
Acting on information from local residents, forest department personnel rushed to the spot and carried out an inspection. Evidence of gunfire and tyre marks indicating vehicular movement were found near the site where the carcasses lay.
Post-mortem examinations have been conducted and samples collected for further analysis. A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, Deputy Conservator of Forests Ramesh Babu said.
Environmentalists suspect the blackbucks were killed by poachers. They believe the poachers may have taken away larger animals and left the fawns behind. They have urged forest officials to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend those responsible.
